SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS
Textile designer and researcher Nicky Vollebregt aims to transform how we think about the materials and the objects we rely on every day. Within her design process, textile craft and industrial textile techniques collide, resulting in intricate materials that speculate on unconventional and innovative applications.
Rotterdam-based Studio Nicky Vollebregt questions object attachment and investigates emotionally sustainable design, or what Nicky refers to as ‘design to cherish’. Her aim is to not merely to create visually appealing designs but to foster new dialogues.
“Sustainable design extends beyond circular, responsible, and ethical material use and production. It also encompasses the way we engage with, relate to, and find meaning in objects, encouraging a desire to own, care for, and treasure them.” explains Nicky. She wants to evoke emotional connections, and show how sustainability can be integrated into every aspect of the design process.

Weaving stories and interaction Nicky presents experimental projects like Pollia, HIGHLIGHT, and Uncover, each inviting us to rethink our everyday interactions with the things we use.
Pollia: Seeking Uniqueness in Reproducibility
Pollia merges manual craftsmanship with machine precision to create woven textiles that are identical in design yet uniquely distinct. Inspired by manual smocking, the mechanically woven Pollia textiles transform from flat fabrics into luminous, sculptural 3D forms through their precise structural design. The project invites us to think about mass-production versus craft and highlights themes like individuality and personalisation.
HIGHLIGHT: Exploring Interaction
HIGHLIGHT is a celebration of experiment, craft and a curiosity-driven exploration of weaving. Nicky combines colours and light with materials in ways that feel almost magical, creating pieces that shift and adapt as they interact with their surroundings. Whether it’s the HIGHLIGHT Olegi or any of other works, HIGHLIGHT reflects Nicky’s fascination with the interplay of light, colour, and perspective.

SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS
What if a design lab was more than just a creative space? What if it were a living manifesto, continually challenging how we see fashion, luxury, and sustainability? That’s exactly what Shushanik Droshakiryan has created in Venus In Fury.
Based in Amsterdam, Shushanik‘s lab draws inspiration from the planet Venus – which is fiery and chaotic – by embodying the planet’s turbulent energy. With the spirit of rebellion showing up in every fibre of her designs, her lab boldly reimagines how fabrics are produced, used, and ultimately returned to the earth.
“By emphasising the end-of-life stage, I highlight the importance of designing with a circular economy in mind, pointing us toward a future where caring for the earth goes hand-in-hand with fashion innovation.”
A Call to Rethink Material Life: Revolutionary Approach to Textiles
Marking a seismic shift from traditional textile creation, Venus In Fury’s approach starts not with a sketch, but with a selection of natural materials like Dutch wool and seaweed. Driven by interdisciplinary biomaterial research, Shushanik works with materials designed from an unusual combination of elements for example wool waste with aquatic plants, coffee waste with charcoal.
Central to Shushanik’s work is a deep respect for how materials are used from start to finish. Her strategy, called “Starting from the End,” challenges the usual way of making materials last a long time. Instead, she makes materials that are meant to have short lives but are still full of interesting stories and are made exceptionally well. This approach means each piece not only makes a statement but also helps the environment by breaking down quickly to improve the soil.
Drawing on the mystical Sufi traditions of southern Armenia, Shushanik introduced the Grande SŪF Installation at Dutch Design Week 2024 (DDW2024). She proved that “sustainable” doesn’t have to mean “plain”, by transforming simple wool and seaweed into lush, fur-like textures. Her installation at DDW2024 not only pushed the boundaries of what eco-friendly materials can look like but also reinforced Venus In Fury’s core belief: that true luxury is rooted in respect – both for the craft and for the planet.
Ultimately, Shushanik’s work is a rallying cry for the fashion and design worlds to reconsider how materials are sourced, valued, and returned to nature.

Confetti Fabrics is excited to unveil its new collection for the Spring/Summer season 26. This collection features a diverse range of printed and plain fabrics available in both wovens and jerseys, with a strong emphasis on sustainable options.

PONGEES
Earthy and uplifting tones, plus texture, are hot for spring 2026, says silk specialists Pongees. For spring/summer 2026, silk specialists Pongees is tipping fabrics in colours that are uplifting, yet down to earth, soft, but also invigorating, to sit alongside those with texture to reflect a new confidence among designers.
To add to its sustainable credentials, Pongees is also launching its first collection of Wild Silks, alongside tulles with low or zero formaldehyde.
Sandwashed versions of Pongees popular double crepe and habotai, as well as a crinkle georgette, have been added to the collection to extend its textured fabrics, which also include faille, tasar, mikado, zibeline, mohair and crepes. An additional 10 colours have been added to the range of duchess satins to cover both on trend and classic shades.
As Pongees has stock of more than 1000 fabrics, it can also supply fabric – from 1 metre – for designers working on autumn/winter 2025/6 collections as well as those looking further ahead.

The activity on the fabric market is becoming more and more demanding year by year, both in the fashion sector and in corporate clothing. The expectations of the customers are increasingly focused on innovation and new products.
This season we decided to focus very strongly on knitwear in over 20 colours and several structures in natural compositions 100% CO and 85% NYLON/15% EL.
The comfort of using this type of knitwear gives an excellent effect for the final recipient. It is a combination of comfort of everyday use and elegance. The knitwear offered is available in our warehouse in central Poland in Rzgow near to Lodz, which guarantees excellent service throughout Europe within a few days from the date of order.
For more conservative customers, we have fabrics in TWILL, OXFORD and SATIN weaves with the most sophisticated finishes, which can be used both for companies from the fashion market or for contracts for corporate clothing. They have ECO-TEX certification for all their products.

Discover the new Spring/Summer 2026 Collection by Paulo de Oliveira
Founded in 1936, in Covilhã, Portugal, Paulo de Oliveira, SA, is a leader in the production of elastic fabrics in Europe and exports most of its production to all continents. They are a vertical company producing from fiber to fabric, under the same roof, including the spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing for woven and knitting fabrics.
They are also a reference in sustainable production, with focus on sustainable raw materials produced in Europe with ecological processes, using recycled materials and renewable energy. Their manufacturing process is one of the most efficient in the world in terms of low carbon footprint. They keep on investing in the latest technology, being a state-of-the art unit for the production of wool fabrics and a reference company in the sector, globally.
PAULO DE OLIVEIRA group is composed of 3 textile companies: PAULO DE OLIVEIRA, PENTEADORA and TESSIMAX. The company has several certifications:
- STeP Certification by Oeko-Tex; Amfori Certification BSCI; GRS – Global
- Recycle Standard; RWS – Responsible Wool standard and Oeko-Tex Standard 100.
- They are registered in the BCI (Better Cotton Iniciative) platform – They are not members but they can buy BCI cotton and pass the credits of this cotton to the clients who want BCI cotton;
- They are registered in the ZDHC platform and they have the Supplier To Zero (Foundational Level) certification;
- They are registered in the Higg Index platform and they have the certificate of completion of the self-assessment of the environmental module (not verified).
With sustainability and responsibility guiding their practices, as previously mentioned, several investments were made:
New Biomass Boiler, allowing a reduction of carbon emissions (more than 3500 Tons of CO2/year avoided, meaning a 75% reduction);
Over 1.6 million invested on photovoltaic panels, allowing a reduction of electricity consumption from the grid and consequent reduction of indirect CO2 emissions associated with the production of this electricity;
As for wastewater recover and reuse, more than 1.4 million were invested in a wastewater recovery plant. They have their own Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), since 2002 and 100% reuse of all incoming water, which is primarily used for cooling equipment.

They have undergoing an investment project to recover 65% of the treated effluent developed in the R&D Project jointly with University of Beira Interior, UBI. With this same institution (UBI), there’s a research project aiming the development of new effluent treatment processes for less pollutant load effluents. Adding to this, they proceeded with installing several flowmeters to improve the characterization and control of water consumption from different production processes. By implementing all of these measures, there was a drastic reduction of fresh water consumption and needs.
Because innovation is part of their DNA, new investments were made in spinning and weaving departments, in order to achieve even more sustainable products.

Explore these innovative projects at the Sustainable Innovations Forum in the Keyhouse in Hall 7
Born from frustration about past experiences within the textile industry and its unwillingness to stray from the status quo, Suzanne Oude Hengel founded Knit in Motion (KiM). Her goal: to push boundaries, experiment, and challenge the way things are done. KiM breaks down traditional notions of knitting by questioning, examining, and rethinking the craft and its applications, going off the beaten track to explore new territory within textile design.
Suzanne’s graduation project (ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem), “Loop Coloured Feet” (2015), explores the potential of using knitting as an alternative material in footwear. It represents a starting point for many ideas that she continues to investigate including rethinking production methods, reviving older techniques, and focusing on craftsmanship.
A tube and the shape of a sock were the starting point for “Santoni” (created at Santoni in Shanghai in 2016). Working with circular knitting machines allowed Suzanne to develop a different approach to thinking about shape.

For their 50th anniversary, Suzanne was among Timberland’s chosen collaborators for “Timberland Future 73”. Launched at Milan Design Week 2023, the collection opens with the brand’s classic styles and blends them with her world of unexpected colour and material choices, resulting in a reimagined vision for the brand as well as the application of knitted textiles.

Suzanne’s ongoing research “Spacers” (since 2018) looks at the potential of using weft knitting technology to create spacers. Research includes experimenting with different materials, densities, and final applications. Projects like Timberland Future 73 draw from this body of research, illustrating completely different end-uses for this innovative knitted material.
With “Welded Loop”, Knit in Motion and Studio Joris de Groot collaboratively explore the innovative use of Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) in shoe design by integrating knitting, welding, and 3D printing techniques. Inspired by the discovery of TPU at the Techtextil fair in Frankfurt, the project harnesses the material’s versatility and recyclability. By integrating knitting, welding, and 3D printing, “Welded Loop” not only seeks to innovate shoe design but also aims to inspire new applications and combinations of techniques in textile and material processing, paving the way for future advancements.
