Munique City Guide
The MUNIQUE E-Magazine is online: Your Information & Inspiration for Spring.Summer 23
Under “normal” circumstances, we would welcome the buyers and product managers of international fashion brands personally at MUNICH FABRIC START and BLUEZONE today and look forward to 3 inspiring days at the show in Munich.
However, we are unfortunately still quite far from “normal” at the moment. The last months have been extraordinarily dynamic and incredibly challenging! Having to announce a cancellation so close to our goal with over 700 registered international exhibitors has been the most difficult decision in the history of our company.
Despite many question marks and uncertainties, we are convinced that we have made the right decision. The current situation in Germany and Europe confirms this since it doesn’t provide a basis on which we can receive people from 36 countries in Munich or organise trade shows at the level we are known for.
Now online:
The MUNIQUE E-Magazine Spring.Summer 23
Especially now, we want to offer the fashion and textile industry a comprehensive basis of inspiration and information for Spring.Summer 23 – with our MUNIQUE Magazine. You normally receive this as a basis for your trade show visit on site and later online for follow-up work. This time, as a pure e-magazine, we are offering you even more editorial content and news from the industry – enjoy reading!
The new MUNIQUE E-Magazine is online now and offers insights into the new season with interviews and guest articles, innovative new materials and the latest product developments from our international exhibitor brands:
What can you expect?
- An interview with the trade show organisers
- News & novelties of the season of the FABRICS, ADDITONALS, DESIGN STUDIOS, SOURCING and BLUEZONE suppliers
- The latest news about the online sourcing platform ReSOURCE – your opportunity to source sustainable materials online at any time
- A landmark article by FashNerd’s Muchaneta Kapfunde on the 2022 technical innovations
- The SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS that will shape our industry
A Sneak Peak into the E-Magazine content:
Now we are looking ahead and concentrate on the organisation of the next trade shows in the coming months.
The first independent BLUEZONE X KEYHOUSE is planned for spring 2022, followed by VIEW Premium Selection from 21 – 22 June 2022 and MUNICH FABRIC START & BLUEZONE at the usual show date from 30 August – 01 September 2022.
We can hardly wait to welcome EVERY.BODY again soon. Until then, we wish you a successful season – and stay healthy.
Don't miss the Fashion and Nature Exhibition in Munich
With seven exhibitions a year, the Handwerk Gallery is devoted to conveying the outstanding skills of modern and traditional crafters, to highlight their significant contribution to society as well as give craft culture a clear presence in Munich. For their current spring exhibition, we are invited to explore the diverse relationship between fashion and nature, featuring a unique showcase of international designers, studios and artisans from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, England, France, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland.
The “Fashion and Nature” exhibition takes place from May 4th – June 12th 2021 in the Hardwerk Gallery, Munich.
Book your appointment and find more information at www.hwk-muenchen.de/galerie.
INSPIRED BY NATURE
Nature is a topic that continues to inspire fashion. Its influence goes beyond the original provision of raw materials such as wool, silk and other natural fibers or fur, leather, and natural dyes. Ever new and amazing abundance of designs emerge inspired by nature, in floral prints, delicate embroideries, decorative elements made of feathers, artificial flowers and straw.
Another parallel is the fashion system itself, the approaches and goals of fashion to attract attention, advertise and stand out can be compared with behavioral patterns in nature. The original intention of fashion is to convey attributes such as splendour, wealth, social position and sexual attraction. These attributes can also be found in nature.
THE MEANING OF FASHION AND NATURE
The cyclical change in fashion also follows that of the seasons in nature. In this way, on part of the exhibition shows natural motifs in designs by young designers as well as traditional techniques which have emerged from nature, such as fabric weaving, fabric printing and embroidery. Innovative and unusual creations from the field of traditional handicrafts such as those of flower makers and feather artisans are also presented. It is intended to remind of the decisive importance of these branches of handicrafts for fashion and the success of their creations. At the same time, the entire spectrum of inventiveness and imagination including the creative transfer performance, is documented.
Another focus is on new materials that are extracted from nature and used in fashion. Young designers are exploring the possibilities of algae, fungi, bacteria, and various natural fibers such as pineapple and cellulose. The range of experimentation is almost unlimited.

Growing Fair Fashion in Munich with GREENSTYLE
Due to the current Covid-19 situation and the accompanying event guidelines, this event has been cancelled or will be postponed to a later date. For more information, please visit the Greenstyle Hompeage.
IT’S ON YOU TO BE THE CHANGE
Sustainability is in. But sustainability is more than a trend. Sustainability is THE defining topic of the fashion industry – now and in the future. With 50 brands and exciting approaches from recycling to upcycling to zero waste, circular fashion and innovative consumer models, the consumer format GREENSTYLE Munich brings various facets of sustainable fashion to the Isarforum in the Deutsches Museum in Munich from March 13th to 15th. The format creates lasting impact with exciting speakers from science, industry, trade and NGOs during the two day conference program.
We spoke with Mirjam Smend, greenfluencer, journalist, Fashion Revolution ambassador and the founder of GREENSTYLE, Mirjam Smend.
What can you tell us about the growing interest in sustainable fashion?
Interest has grown significantly over the past year. We can see that in the number of visitors and by the growing inquiries from exhibitors and the press.
Do you have any top tips for visitors who may be attending for the first time?
Be sure to bring time, because there are 50 great brands with exciting stories in stock. Also, our two day conference program with inspiring topics. There is (free!) fairtrade coffee, delicious vegan catering and of course the iconic GREENSTYLE vibes.
#letschangethatfashiongame
In what way is GREENSTYLE helping to spread sustainable fashion, especially among those who are unaware of the harmful effects of conventional fashion consumption?
With our brands, we are targeting people with an interest in fashion to show them sustainable alternatives. Contemporary fashion that was made with as little impact as possible for people, animals and nature. We have representatives on site who are showcasing alternative consumption models, for example, borrowing clothes reduces the ecological footprint by 70 percent and also allows for greater variety in the wardrobe. With the conference we want to enlighten, but also inspire. There are topics from the status quo of sustainable fashion to finding one’s own style, capsule wardrobes, and innovative shopping models as well we are especially excited to host a discussion on the impact of fashion on the climate with one of the world’s most renowned climate researchers.
GREENSTYLE makes Munich a sustainable hotspot again – this time as a partner of Munich Creative Business Week (MCBW), taking place March 7th – 15th in Munich.
GREENSTYLE FAIR
Bomber jackets made from post-consumer waste, product codes on textiles, alternative consumption models and rediscovered natural (hemp) and maximum innovative materials such as apple skin – with 50 brands , GREENSTYLE Munich shows different facets of sustainable fashion and at the same time remains the largest event of its kind since its foundation in October 2018. The successful “Meet the Maker” concept will also be continued at the 4th edition, because the direct contact between the brand and the consumer ensures the necessary transparency, which is one of the most important elements of sustainable fashion.
“Consumption is no longer a self-expression. Consumption is a responsibility. ”- Claudia Hofmann, Fashion Council Germany
GREENSTYLE CONFERENCE
The conference program for the 4th edition has once again been expanded. With over 30 speakers, solutions for a more sustainable fashion industry are discussed from different perspectives. Panel guests include Folkdays founder Lisa Jaspers, who calls for a supply chain law with #fairbylaw. Climate researcher Prof. Dr. Georg Kaser discusses the effects of fashion on the climate. Using apple skin, Hannes Parth has developed a material that offers a sustainable vegan alternative to petroleum based plastics. Thimo Schwenzfeier, Show Director NEONYT, gives after their most successful B2B event in January 2020 insights into the sustainable development of the fashion industry.
Georg Dieners, Secretary General of OEKO-TEX, Wonder Wardrobe founder Daria Andronescu, brand expert Holger Petermann, SOFFA founder and Fashion Revolution Greece manager Fiori Zafeiropoulou also sit on the podium.

BEYOND AWARE – Global trend
BEYOND AWARE, the overarching trend theme for Autumn 20/21 analyses the multi-layered levels of awareness on different planes of perception – personal, global, regional, mental, rational, emotional and transcendental. It’s all about self-awareness and contemplating the status quo. BEYOND AWARE stands for a new way of thinking and rethinking that goes far beyond our previous understanding of fashion.
It’s about more than just fashion!
BEYOND AWARE calls for the observation and very responsive reaction to the changes in consumer and clothing habits – one that is dynamic, attentive and bold. Combined with the demand for change in trends as well as values, which is currently manifested in two ideological concepts. On one hand is Bold Expressions presents an individual, very enthusiastic lifestyle and fashion style. On the other hand is Forward Ethics for conscious, responsible consumption. Two very different concepts that polarise and attract attention. The affirmation of BEYOND AWARE.

Awareness of ecologically sustainable certificates and seals of quality is on the rise. With ReSOURCE, MUNICH FABRIC START has established a broad sourcing platform that provides sustainable solutions for innovative and future-oriented production processes. In Area K3/4 of Hall 4, ReSOURCE will be showcasing over 600 innovative articles certified and/or produced in an environmentally friendly way.
In the emerging circular economy of the future, nothing is treated as waste. What is left over from one process becomes input to another, so keeping it circualting. Refibra technology gives a second life to pre-consumer cotton waste from garment manufacturing – which would otherwise be sent to landfills or incinerated – by upcycling it into brand new cellulosic fiber materials for clothing and home products. In a special installation, Lenzing will showcase closed-loop recycling with its complete production process for TENCEL™ x REFIBRA™ at the ReSOURCE area.
Through personal discussions on site, visitors can learn key details about the respective certificates and seals directly from the responsible certification organisations and institutes. The entire portfolio of innovations shown in the ReSOURCE Area is available all year round on the new website:
